Born in Chile, jazz pianist and composer Manuel Villarroel formed an improvisation-focused group with his brother Patricio in the 1960s, and built his career in France from the 1970s onward, leaving behind many pieces. This album is the only release under the name Septet Matchi-oul, which evolved from a quartet he started with saxophonist Jef Sicard. The album features 7 tracks, including "Parisonophobie" which immediately draws you in from the first drum beat and launches into a breathtaking performance, and "Amma" unfolds with a tension-filled yet supple and beautiful development. The entire album is filled with passion and undeniable quality. Terrific. A French original with excellent condition.
南米チリに生まれ60年代には弟Patricioらと共に即興演奏を軸にしたグループを結成そして70年以降はフランスにてキャリアを築き多くの傑作に名を残すジャズピアニスト/コンポーザーManuel Villarroel。本作はサックス奏者Jef Sicardと共に始めたカルテットから発展したSeptet Matchi-oul名義唯一作。最初のドラムから一気に引き込んでいき息をもつかさぬ演奏に突入していく”Parisonophobie”、緊張感を伴いながらしなやかで美しい展開を見せていく”Amma”を筆頭にした全7曲。全編気迫に満ちた間違いない内容。凄いです。盤面良好のフランスオリジナル。
