日本刀は我が国独自の文化財で、世界に誇る『鉄の芸術』である。古代にあっては最新 の科学技術として人間の生活文化に貢献し、特に中世以降は武士の魂として尊ばれてきた。 日本刀の製作は本来、武器としての機能をふまえた上で美を追求したものであり、それ故 に根強い愛刀家が多い。
本書は愛刀家藤澤乙安氏のコレクションが財団法人日本美術刀剣保存協会(刀剣博物館) に寄贈されたのを機会に、このコレクションを鑑賞することを目的としてつくられた。し かし、それらの鑑賞のためにはいかなる予備知識が必要かを示すこともねらいとしており、 刀剣入門書の一端をになうものと自負している。 本書の構成は次の通りである。
1カラー頁は同コレクションの刀装及び刀装具を中心に、コレクション以外の関係資料も広くとり入れ、その見方を示した。
2また白黒頁は、最初に刀剣のみかたの要点をパターン化して例示し、コレクション解読 の一助とした。
3刀工に関しては、古刀はおおむね五ヶ伝に分け、当てはまらない新刀、新々刀は時代別、 国別、系統別に示した。同コレクションにかかわる刀工たちが日本刀史の流れの中でい かなる活躍をしているかを位置づけるためでもある。刀剣にかかわる専門用語は2のパ ターン化との関連の中で理解していただきたい。
4付録では、刀匠天田昭次氏、研師本阿彌道弘氏の対談を入れ、現代の刀匠や研師たちが、 いかなる思いで、文化財としての日本刀に接しているかを語っていただいた。
The Japanese sword is a cultural property unique to Japan and is a world-class "iron art". In ancient times, it contributed to human life and culture as the latest science and technology, and has been revered as the soul of samurai, especially since the Middle Ages. Originally, the production of Japanese swords was based on the function as a weapon and pursued beauty, and therefore many sword lovers are deep-rooted.
This book was created for the purpose of appreciating the collection of the swordsman Otoyasu Fujisawa, who was donated to the Japan Art Swords Preservation Association (Sword Museum). However, it also aims to show what kind of prior knowledge is needed to appreciate them, and is proud to be a part of the sword introductory book. The structure of this book is as follows.
The one-color page mainlysword fittings and sword fittings of the same collection, and alsorelated materials other than the collection,incorporates thewidely incorporatesand shows its perspective.
2 In addition, the black-and-white page first patterned and illustrated the main points of how to use the sword, and helped to decipher the collection.
Regarding the three swordsmiths, the old swords are roughly divided into five swords, and the new swords and new swords that do not apply are shown by era, country, and system. 4 In the appendix, we included a dialogue between swordsmith Akitsugu Amata and sharpener Moto Aya Michihiro, and talked about how modern swordsmiths and sharpeners come into contact with Japanese swords as cultural properties.
